Spam Filtering

Spam is the plague that effects the internetHere at Experisys IT Ltd we hate nothing more than receiving spam emails which is why we offer anti-spam filtering as a standard feature with our email hosting package.

We use a number of techniques to reduce the amount of spam getting into your mailbox. We start with using industry standard 'blacklists' - if the sending server is on one of the blacklists, the message isn't accepted and, if the sender is legitmate, they will receive a non-delivery report from their server. After the blacklists we use 'greylists' - this technique issues the sending mail server with a temporary error informing it to try again later. If the server retries to send after a set time, the message is accepted. This technique works as the majority of spammer's systems will not retry the message if it receives a temporary error. If the message is accpted the next stage is to analyse the message content. This check inspects the structure of the message (message headers, message format etc) and the message content for known patterns used in spam. As the checks are performed, each check assigns a 'score' to the message and, as the message score increases, it is given increasing levels of spam confidence from "maybe spam but, allow through unaltered" to "almost certainly spam, quarantine the message". This is an ever evolving issue and we keep abreast of current techniques used by spammers and techniques used to detect their wares.
